Clarification needed regarding Resource availability units under resources main page in project libre

Hi,
I have a simple question:(May be my understanding is wrong)
1)I have reource R1 assigned to Task 1
2)Suppose task T1 effort is 2 days
3)In the resource availability tab under resources menu (I did not double click task and assign-i DIRECTLY went to resource availability tab and mentioned max units as 50%)
4)Now in Task side assign this resource-I expected that the number of dates move to 4 days-technically 50% each day.
5)But looks it does not change.It still shows 2 days.
6)Am I doing something wrong here?
7)Same thing works fine if I assign resource in task table double click and in the resources tab mention 50%.
8)What is the purpose of max units in Resources menu when I click resources icon?How does this work?

Seem to have the same problem
Seems like I am missing the same understanding of how this availability works.
Trying to add a resource (with 50% availability set under resource information) to a task with unassigned duration of 1 day.
Was expecting the same result as the post above, that the task would, after assigning, be stretched to 2 days date-wise.
Instead what I get is the 50% resource getting an 8hrs workload in 1 day.
Is there some setting I am missing?
I can verify that the chosen calender is correct for the resource since when I assign that resource to a task placed over planned vacation, the task is moved to next available time for the resource (pushed to after vacation).
