Dear Colleagues,

I'm trying to update the start date of thactivity in the Project file, but no matter if typed amnually or chosen from the callendar it constantly comes back to the last-saved date, while there is no problem to change the end date for the same activity.

Please, help.

I just tried it and it works fine both entering in the spreadsheet and also via the calendar.  When you change the start date it will give you a notice in the information column of the spreadsheet.  Do you want to send your project file and I can test ?  info@projectlibre.com

All the best!

I am also having difficulty changing the start date on a project.  I have changed the start date on the project screen but the 'actual start' date will not change.  all other tasks under this one are moving fine.

Hi Bert,

In project management methodology you don't want your Actual Start to move when other dates change.  There are earned value costing and other standards.  The Actual Start date will not change when others do get modified.

Best regards,

Marc

Please read kkrepa's opening post more carefully - he is not talking about the PROJECT start date, he is talking about an ACTIVITY start date - one of the sub components or sub-projects that make up the full project plan.

I too am having exactly the same problem - for example,

- I create a project with a project start date of 1 July 2013

- I create three sub-projects with constrained start dates of 1 October 2013, 1 January 2013, and 1 March 2013

- At the top of the plan I have various tasks related to pre-planning and preparation that occurs mainly between 1 July 2013 and 1 October 2013, but could continue on after that second date.

After entering some project steps for the three sub-projects, I might decide the 2nd sub-project could start earlier or later and I try to change it's start date.

I can type the new date into the field, and I can select from the calendar drop down, but THE NEWLY SELECTED DATE IS NOT SAVED and the field reverts to the previously saved date.  I can try saving by using the enter key, or by tabbing, or by clicking in another cell on the sheet, but nothing will make the new date save.  Saving the project and re-opening it shows the original date in place, not the new date.

Double-clicking the task/activity name or date to open the details pop-up gives exactly the same problem in the general and advanced tabs - no variation of edit or save method for the dates and duration fields will change and save the start date of that activity.

This is a serious bug in the program because it means project timelines cannot be manually adjusted once created.

We will look at it but as someone trying to be of assistance it is off-putting to help someone who seems rude

You can drag the task to the date and it creates the constraint for you.... otherwise CPM methodology default is start as soon as possible

I am having the exact problem described above and I did try OB's suggestion of dragging in calendar view and the start date just snaps back to the original date?

I notice that these posts are a year old, did this get resolved?

The program works properly.  If there is a constraint then it will show with an icon to the far left of the spreadsheet..... if there is not then it defaults to start as early as possible.  It will in fact move to that date.  Maybe take a look at the documentation or pick up a PM book/tutorial.  I am glad to report it does work correctly.

I can set constraints for a task ..such as must start on etc but this alter the activity start date which remains stubbornly fixed. Have removed all predecessors from the task, have tried dragging the task ..all to no avail.

As per previously comments - can't alter the start date on the activity

Has anyone found a resolution to this?

I have the same issue, the task always reverts back to the project start date. I have different tasks showing different contraints (start before, start on etc) but they all revert back to the project start date. I have tried dragging and dropping the task, ensuring the resource calendar is correct, ensuring the task has 0% complete, no predeccessors etc. Everything I have read on the forum has not worked.

I have not seen anyone come back to a suggestion confirming that it fixed their issue, so I am wondering if there is a genuine method to resolve this?

I'm finding that I can't enter the start and end dates I want for a project- it keeps defaulting back to ridiculous dates- either starting in 1970 or ending in 2040. I can't find anywhere that I've entered a set duration or anything else that would explain it- what is going on?

Hi Olivia,

Did you paste the information into the spreadsheet in ProjectLibre?  Did you import the project?   You can send it to us at info@projectlibre.com and we can get you an answer.   Are there yellow icons on the left of the spreadsheet indicating constraints.  You may also want to check the Project Dialog box check the "Current Date and Status date"

It's concerning that this problem persists after four years. I have found that if I delete a task and reenter it, I can get the dates I want; but I don't want to have to go through this every time I need to adjust dates.
