How to have automatically shift out end date when more tasks are added

0 comment(s)

How do I specify tasks to achieve the following:

Consider the following (simplified) set up:

  • there is a task A that starts on Jan, 1st and consist of a work amount of 6 months, if a resource is working on it 100%.  So it will be finished end of June
  • there is a task B that starts on March 1st and goes until end of March and the resource is allocated 20% to it

Now in this situation the resource histogram shows that in March the resource is used to 120%.  That is not what I want.  I want that the resource utilization stays at 100%.  That it detects that in March the resource can only work with 80% on task A.  And as of course the work amount of task A stays the same the work of 4 weeks at 20 % (= 0.8 weeks at 100% = 4 days at 100%) is added at the end so that the end date of task A automatically shifts out by 4 days.

I tried to achieve this by setting in the Advanced tab of the tasks the type to 'fixed work' and giving task B higher priority than task A in the General tab (hoping that then task B would be serviced and task A shifted out).  But that did not happen.  The end date of task A stayed unchanged and in March the resource stayed overloaded.  How do I have to set up the tasks to achieve an automated distribution of the work amount?

Filter resource by name

3 comment(s)

Hello,

I would like to ask if there is any possibility to filter resources by name. I mean, I have hundreds of tasks that are assigned to different resources (Task 1 to resources A+B, Task 2 to resources B+C, Task 3 to resources A+C, Task 4 to resource B, etc...) and I want to know what should do resource B this week - that he should do Task 1, Task 2 and Task 4.

I know that there is a feature to filter by resources, but then I have 20 different groups (Resource A, Resource B, Resources A+B, Resources A+C, etc..), where I have to look one by one for the specific Resource B.

Thank you!

Kristina

Possible bug & work-around

Resource usage view - is this the intended functionality? When viewing resource usage (I have resources organized into 4 groups), the resource usage window does not seem to show the task usage for all of the resources by default, only those tasks assigned to a top-level group.  If I want to see the resource utilization for one or more individual resources, I need to select the appropriate rows in the resource window.

How do I change back from Actual Usage to Projected Usage?

I am part-way into a simulated project and have entered some Actual Start and Finish times.

Now I cannot get back to the page which shows the rest of the project and the projected start and finish dates.

How do I Do That?

Printing Resource Usage

I am new to ProjectLibre and want to know if the Resource Usage view can be printed to view what resources are needed when and how much per day - want to prevent overscheduling resources.

Thanks

Basic question re Resources allocation

2 comment(s)

Hi all,

Here is the little scenario I would like to clarify:

1. I create a 10 days task T1 with all default settings ( type= fixed units, duration=80hours, workload=80 hours)

2. If I assign one resource R1 to it, resource is allocated for 100% for the duration of the task. So far, so good.

3A. If I remove the resource R1 and THEN reassign 2 resources R1 and R2, both are allocated for 100% and the duration of the task drops to 40hours/5 days (task work remains unchanged at 80hours). So far, still good.

3B. Now, if instead of removing R1 first, I keep R1 assigned to T1 and add R2, then both resources are assigned to T1 for 100% but the duration of the task drops to 20hours and the work for the task drops to 40 hours.I would have expected the result of 3B to be the same as 3A.

Could someone please help me clarify what I am missing ?

Thank you.
