Can not change task start date

I just started working with this software

I got 8 tasks in and was linking them all serially by typing in the predecessors manually everything was working great until the start date quit changing on the 7th task.

A yellow calender icon appeared in the first colunm stating 'task has a 'starts no earlier than' date'

I have tried to adjust this every way I can think of to no avail, I modified the properties window, changing the start date options and no matter what I choose they keep going back to 'starts no earlier than'

I also tried: insert lines, delete lines and try again, restart projectlibre, insert lines above line 7....

now the predecessor function is completed unusable in my whole project... even changing tasks that worked before do not update the start date if I change the predecessor and refresh links.

Anyone else seen this? How can I get this to work???

It has something to do with constraints. In a post fro 2014 I saw someone mention something about constraints. So I started changing constraints on a task for which I had not been able to change the start date forward or backward. I fiddled with the "MUST START ON" type settings in he ADVANCED tab of the task info window and also the % COMPLETE value on the GENERAL tab of the same window. The task start data jumped and I am able to change the start date forward now. I bet that with fiddling more regarding the constraints I will be able to get the tasks to start and stop correctly.

I had the same problem. One solution found: click on UPDATE on TASKS group functions on the top horizontal bar. From this dialog box you can update the ACTUAL START and END date of an activity.

Tblacerda thx this fixed the problem sort of, but the actuals will be wrong. This is a planning tool. Yes it's free but frustrating. Yet they claim so many big name users on the site.

If a task has not started it should not have any actuals accrued so the actuals will be correct. There are many more Fortune 100, Fortune 500 and Global 2,000 companies using ProjectLibre effectively than the few we list. The team has worked hard to continually improve ProjectLibre and still have more to do.

If you have an Actual Start it will not let you change the start date. The CPM scheduling engine is correct. If you have 0% complete it has not started and you will not have actual cost.
