I started using ProjectLibre this week.
First problem is the date format. This is a big issue and it surprises me. I thought ProjectLibre was a non-US endeavour, so why is it such a PITA to sensibly format the fundamental notion of project management - ie time and date? It's only the US that uses its dates back to front so at the very least let's have some sensible guidance on how to set this to the standard format or even the ISO one. Having the default as the exception to the rule ie. US style back to front is not sensible.
Second issue. I'm trying to set my calendar. I see a bug reference to this problem from 2013 that makes setting the default hours almost impossible. Yet I'm still experiencing this. Again its a fundamental part of defining a project ... ie when are your human resources actually working.
There's a chance here i've not found some knowledge base that highlights and deals with these problems. But the fact that i've not found it yet would pose another question ... why is that knowledge base not staring me in the face?
Summary feedback... initially excited, subsequently disappointed and now pissed off and thinking about whether i can actually use Project Libre in my work.
I would be lovely to hear back from those managing this project. I shall shortly be submitting a workflow on how to get a useful date format working using JVMOptions.
Hi there, you can use the Globe Icon in the top right to select your country which will set defaults for the Date Format ex. MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YYY etc. It also sets your currency and language.
Please go to the YouTube channel or documenation to go through the Calendar issue. It works so review those...
Hello, I like ProjectLibre a lot - the features are great and comparable to MS Project. There are so far 3 things I would love to change (in order of importance):
1) The look of the top menu - frankly, it looks like Windows 95 style and asking around, this is THE main thing that discourages people around me from using it - they feel that they'd go to something old and obsolete (even though 'under the hood' it is really great piece of software). It is pity to devalue such an amazing project just because it looks ugly. I suggest to a) remove the logo 'ProjectLibre' in the top-left corner (really, this is sooooooo old style) b) re-design the graphics of the grid to be 'MS Office' stype & colors c) add shortcuts to tool-tips. I think those should be super simple changes (really just graphical) and would move the product light years away to 21st century.
2) When I am in the Gantt view, I really don't like that hitting the 'Delete' key deletes the task rather than the value in the 'cell'. I'd prefer the MS Project behavior where delete key deletes the value in the given cell and there would be another shortcut for deleting the task itself.
3) It would be really nice to support sub-projects - again, like in MS Project.
Again, huge thanks for making such an amazing product!
Thank you for the feedback.... Yes, we could do some work with the Menu bar. We are going to reach out to the community developers to assist. On the delete.... if you make sure to click in the cell and the cursor focus in in that cell and click delete it will delete that cell
I try to fit my home renovation project into this great looking software.
Still in the testing phase but looks very good to me.
Thnk you for the effort!
