Project XML export bug

2 comment(s)

We've just discovered that XML files exported by Projectlibre cannot be imported directly by MS Project 2010. Taking a look at the generated XML, I noticed that it contains a  <SaveVersion> element which is set to 9. However, consulting the XML format documentation on MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb968654.aspx) shows that is was only introduced in Project 2007 and has only one possible value: 12 -- corresponding to Project 2007. A value of 9 would not appear to make sense.

After we manually changed the element value to 12, it could be succesfully imported into MS Project 2010.

XML Mapping File

1 comment(s)

Has anyone created an MS Project XML mapping file to be used with Excel?  I've been tasked with importing some larger existing project plans that were done in Excel.  According to the help, in order to export it from excel in a format that can be imported into ProjectLibre, I have to have a "mapping" file that will map the excel columns to the XML schema.  I took a couple of runs at it without luck.  Not really sure what I am trying to achieve with it.  As a related thought, any plans for a CSV import function that could eliminate all this run around?  Thanks for the help.

Exporting files from PL to Project Insight

0 comment(s)

Does anyone have any experience exporting xml files from Project Libre to Project Insight (a web-based Multi-Project Management software tool)?

I have a number of Project Libre projects to export to PI.  The export process using xml files from Project Libre seems to work OK, importing all the key information to Project Insight EXCEPT "Work".  "Work" is always imported as "0".   So far, I have not found any "magic" setting to bring the "work" values into PI.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ron

Further test results

  1. Action:  Create project in PL, save as xml and import that xml into Project Insight
    1. Result:  Project is imported OK, except "Work" is imported with value of "0"
  2. Action: Create project in PL and save as xml. Open that xml file with MS Project 2007 and save it again as an xml with MSP 2007 (no changes). Import that xml into Project Insight.
    1. Result:  Project is imported OK including "Work" is imported with correct value.
  3. Action: Create project in MS Project 2007, save as xml and import that xml into Project Insight
    1. Result:  Project is imported OK including "Work" is imported with correct value.

So it appears that the xml file as created by PL is not quite the same as the xml file created by MS Project.
