How to set precise end times for milestones?

Hi,

I just downloaded PL for testing on OpenSuse 12.1. I am thinking of using it for planning a school event. However, I ran into a critical problem. It seems impossible to set precise times for milestones, e.g. from 2013-03-19 10:00 to 2013-03-19 11:30. PL always resets the end time to 17:00. That's bad because it screws up the time tracking...

Hi, did you try this:

duration=0, display as milestone (optional) and in the "advanced" screen contrainttype = must finish on and constraint date = 2013-03-19 11:30. milestones are defined by the fact that duration must be 0. Otherwise it is a "normal" task. but it also can end at a precise time.

Hi sgofferj

I see your questions and think that PL is able to help you out with setting a  milestone at the required time.

first of all , as stated in another answer , a milestone has 0 duration; else it would be a normal task.

so in the  setup of task , see that you have a column called duration.

In another column "Finish" you specify the end date/time( make sure NOT to specify a start date/time)

name the milestone and for duration  fill in "0"   , this will set a dot (square) on the Gantt chart.

now you can set some other tasks that will lead you towards this milesstone.

the other tasks, you have to link to each other and at least one to the milestone.

Now tell the program to calculate the time backwards from the Milestone and it will indicate to you the starting time of all your tasks specified in the project.

any further aquestions??? ASK
