Unable to change task dates

I am unable to change the start dates for tasks once they have been linked - even after the link is removed.
I have tried adding a new task before the existing ones with a new date, then linking to the existing tasks - there is no change to the existing dates.
I have noted a number of posts in other forums on this issue, but none here. It would appear to be a common problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Constraints on tasks
Hey there.... it looks like those tasks would have had constraints put on them. One the spreadsheet take a look to see if there are constraints on those tasks that will not allow them to be moved.... it could be something like Start no later than for instance....then with that constraint it would restrict the task. You'll see a yellow box on the side of the spreadsheet if there is a constraint.
Not able to change task dates that has no contrains
I am having the same problem. I have a task that has no constrains. But not able to change the dates. Currently it is 10/30/2014 and i want to change to 10/21/2014. The project start date is set to 10/1/2014.

Is there a yellow icon next to your task in the spreadsheet?
There are a few things.... do you have a yellow icon next to the task name in the spreadsheet ? That would show you a constriant. Have you updated progress on the project status to a certain date? If you look in the project dialog box and see where the progress is.... if is past this date you won't be able to set it before progress.

I have the same problem here.
no constraint, start date in 18 jan 2014, status date is 06 feb 2014 and every new activity starts on the 01 Feb 2015.
And no way to modify it. The schedule is not resorce loaded.
Any Idea?
