Update task completion with actuals

How do I update a task that finishes ahead of schedule without having to change the planned duration? I've tried the obvious step of selecting a task and pressing the update button. The Update Tasks window pops up with what I take to be the planned duration/start/finish in the top and actuals in the bottom. However, all the fields seem to be linked to each other. I'm basically forced to change the planned duration to be the actual duration, making the idea of separate actual and planned durations meaningless.

Entering Actual Finish date will work
You can enter the Actual Finish date in either the spreadsheet or task detail dialog box and that will automatically change the duration. Good luck with your project and thank you for being part of the community!

Entering Actual Finish date...leaves Actual Finish blank
Good Day. After lots of uncertainty about how to update ProjectLibre that a task was finished I decided to buy the book. Following its instructions and the online help I am still not seeing the documented results.
Unlike the description above, when I enter Actual Finish the Actual Finish field stays blank. In some cases it affects the Remaining Duration field but never down to 0.
Help and advice is VERY welcome.
I cannot duplicate either... actual finish works
I am sorry but could not duplicate your issue... it appeared to work correctly. I did just see a bug reported with a resource calendar holiday updating % complete visually does not appear to go 100% complete but it actually does in the spreadsheet and data....
Skype call
I want to get to the bottom of this.... Let me know if we can jump on a skype call and share screen....
Actual Finish Date earlier than Baseline Finish Date
I'm having the same problem of entering an Actual Finish Date earlier than the Baseline Finish Date. This happens in either the Gantt chart view or in the particular activity's dialog box. Even though you type in the earlier date, it pops to the Baseline Finish Date as soon as you hit enter.
Milestones and completed tasks
Is there a way, I can get a report or a list of all the milestones and completed tasks
Thanks,

Actual finish date linked to initial finish date
Hello,
I am trying to update the project plan with an actual finish date (16.6.2015) that is different from the initial finish date (3.6.2015)
The problem is that when i select the actual date the initial date changes to the finish date and along with it the hours and duration.
Unfortunatelly i can't attach images here but i can send print screens over e-mail.
I'm using ver 1.5.9.
Thank you,
Silviu.
